Know the TIB Closure Procedures
When all items entered under a TIB have been exported:
Step 1: Submit Proof of Export
Upload Documentation:
Proof of export must be uploaded to the Document Imaging System (DIS) for the Temporary Importation Bond (TIB).
If submitting proof in paper form, provide the documents directly to the designated CBP port or Center.
Step 2: Single Submission of Export Documentation
When to Submit:
At the close of the TIB period or upon the final export of items under the TIB, submit a single, comprehensive set of export documents that accounts for all items covered by the bond.
Note: For TIBs with multiple items where partial exports or destructions have occurred, the TIB will remain open until all items have been either exported or destroyed.
Step 3: Submit Closure Message via TIB Module
Navigate to the Entries Module:
Access the Temporary Importation Bond – Extension and Closure screen by clicking on the Transmit button.
Initiate Closure Message:
Send a "Closure" message by selecting the Indicator Closure.
Important: This action notifies the correct CBP Center or port team (based on the Importer of Record assignment) that a TIB closure is ready for review.
Step 4: Receive Notification of Acceptance
Upon successful submission, the system will generate a Notification of Acceptance confirming the closure request.
Reminder: After receiving this notification, you do not need to email the Center or port separately to inform them of the TIB closure.
Compliance Notice
Failure to Submit the Closure Message:
If the closure message is not sent after uploading documentation in DIS, the importer may be subject to liquidated damages as per 19 CFR 10.39.
By following these steps, TIB closure requests will be successfully submitted and processed in compliance with CBP requirements.
