With the changes that customs makes to existing HTS at the start of the year, one of the most common issues is Error Code 441. This error code signifies that there has been a change to the HTS and a query is required to bring it up to date.

Instructions

We will go over how to deal with this error if it ever happens to you, and explain it in a simple step-by-step guide:

  1. The first thing you have to do is identify the error on the entry log, the error will look like the example below.

  2. According to the example error the first line states the following: LINITM 000007 REF ID: 007, this identifies that the error falls within line number 7.
  3. The error then further states that the Quantity/UOM is mismatched to that what is on customs side. In order to fix this error you have to update the HTS.

  4. Press on the button on the right side of the Harmonized Tariff section labeled as (...)

  5. This will open up the Search Harmonized Tariff Window.
  6. Select the Query Transmission tab and here you will enter the HTS number on the Tariff section and then press the Transmit button. In the situation that you have multiple HTS number that you have to update, you may add them one by one on Tariff 1 through Tariff 4 fields, and then press the Transmit button.
  7. After a minute, return to the main section of the Entry and press the Save button. This will upload the latest changes to the HTS,  return to the HTS line, press on the HTS, and tab in order to refresh the information and see the latest HTS information.

If the changes don't appear and you continue to receive the error, it may be important to re-query the HTS or wait a little bit of time and go over Step 7 of the process.
